Bonneville 67 strip & paint TA DA FINISHED! A full strip job. It did not look that bad when it arrived untill you get 20 feet close to it, then you see the Macco paint job it is. Don’t worry, we have the anser to that……strip it bare! Here we go.. remember the first rule. “If you paint over crap..you still have crap” This car will be bare soon. MMM looks like it was blue in a past life. Well the first day is over and we have the deck stripped. That was an all day sucker. I found out that the quarters have been patched from the inside. I would have done it the same so I’m gonna do the owner and myself a favor and not dig in to that. You can see yhe spot welds on the inside and the outer low quarters look nice. I will block them flat though. Most of the defects in the trunk came out with the strip. NOBODY wants to strip so they sand out the bad places and paint over. It ALWAYS comes back. I really saved myself a lot of trouble by biting the bullet and STRIPPIN’ IT! A new day and still stripping. The hood and deck are in primer, first etch, then 2 K urethane. Found previous rust on lower pass door. Turns out is was minor.Friday, day 4.. cutting rust from trunk, filled extra antenna hole. Having to work inside the trunk because we cannot acess the area from behind the rear frame is killing us.. bent over. Gonna have to come back later. At least we have the passenger side ready for primer.! I primed it, then found a few more dings, That’s gonna happen. Thanks for the valance. It is nicer. I stripped it and hammered a little. NOW time to start blocking the battleship. Another day later… We blocked sanded and fixed little imperfections, then reprimed. I tinted this coat just a little so I tell more about my sanding levels. It looks a lot better after being primered twice! OK… Day 10 still no word from Publishers Clearing House so we keep trudging along! I’m on my third color primer, but the boat is getting very SLICK. I went through only a few places and found only a few pin size defects. The long blck don’t lie! I got paint under the decklid and hood. Big insulation pad under hood is new. Stripped all weatherstrips from both jambs, ready to water sand them. May get painted this afternoon. Aug 12 10 We got door jambs painted! 8 15 10 Monday, I truly belive this is the final priming of spots. Tomarrow is watersand day! Tuesday Aug 17 we have paint on the hood and trunk plus skirts too. LIKE wet ICE on wet ICE! Wensday, We got paint on it! Laid out real nice with out runs. Let it cure until Friday and put it back together. May have to repaint the hood. I had a lille run and clipped through trying to fix it. Crap, still not the end of the world…. Yes, I did repaint the hood and now it looks even better! Were’ putting it back together and the customer can pick it up this weekend.
